US Strikes Houthi Rebels Kill at Least One Person in Yemen

The US military has acknowledged carrying out airstrikes against the Houthi rebels in Yemen, killing at least one person. The strikes occurred on Friday and Saturday, targeting multiple areas under rebel control, including the capital city of Sanaa.

According to a report by the Associated Press, the new campaign appears more extensive than previous operations under former President Joe Biden, with the US moving from solely targeting launch sites to firing at ranking personnel as well. The attacks have raised concerns among Houthi leaders, who have threatened both Saudi Arabia and the UAE over the strikes.

Satellite images show a mysterious airstrip on Mayun Island, near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, is now ready for flights. The US has deployed four B-2 bombers to Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, with plans to launch attacks from the USS Harry S. Truman and the USS Carl Vinson.

The Houthi rebels have launched numerous attacks against ships from other nations, including American warships. However, none have been hit so far. The conflict in Yemen has been ongoing for over a decade, with the Houthis facing economic problems and launching a crackdown on dissent and aid workers.

A recent campaign of airstrikes by the Houthis has killed at least 58 people, according to their claims. The US military has acknowledged carrying out the strikes, which are part of a broader effort to target Houthi rebel leaders and military sites.
