US Sues KKR Over Alleged Antitrust Violations in 16 Deals

The US has filed a civil lawsuit against private equity firm KKR & Co, alleging the company flouted antitrust review processes for at least 16 deals between 2021 and 2022.

According to Justice Department official Doha Mekki, KKR used document omissions, alterations, and failure to report deals, compromising the integrity of premerger reviews. In some cases, this obscured market impact.

KKR responded with a related lawsuit in federal court, claiming that after cooperating with an investigation spanning nearly three years, the alleged errors identified by the Antitrust Division were “trivial”.

The firm denied any material error interfering with merger reviews.
