US Targets Greek Shipper in Sanctions Against Iran’s Energy Sector

The United States has imposed new sanctions on companies owned by a single Greek shipper, Antonios Margaritis, in an effort to disrupt Iranian oil exports. The sanctions are part of a series aimed at penalizing Tehran’s energy sector following a Washington-brokered ceasefire.

Margaritis, a veteran of the shipping industry, has been accused of illicitly facilitating the transportation and sale of Iranian petroleum. Nine companies based in Greece, Hong Kong, and other countries have been sanctioned, along with 12 vessels carrying flags from various nations.

Among those targeted is Changbai Glory Shipping Limited, which owns a Liberian-flagged ship that has transported over four million barrels of Iranian oil to China since March 2025. The US hopes to penalize Iran’s energy sector in response to a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, now in effect since June.
