US Tariffs Halted After SC Ruling, Trump Doubles Down on Trade War

US President Donald Trump’s sweeping emergency tariffs are now illegal according to a recent Supreme Court ruling. As a result, US Customs and Border Protection will halt the collection of tariffs after midnight ET. However, the administration is not planning to refund any tariff revenue.

Trump has doubled down on his trade war, announcing new 15% global tariffs and warning countries that “play games” could face higher levies. The President also mentioned in a speech that he will have a long State of the Union address tomorrow, during which he plans to discuss various issues.

Meanwhile, tensions with Iran continue to escalate, with the US and Iran planning to hold more talks in Geneva this week. Trump has stated that he’s considering military action if Tehran does not agree to a nuclear deal.

In other news, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has made a plea to Trump to stay on Ukraine’s side as Russia marks its four-year anniversary of full-scale invasion. Senate Democrats have also announced that they will block any effort to extend Trump’s tariffs beyond the 150-day window allowed under Section 122.

Today, President Trump plans to address the nation in his State of the Union speech, which is expected to be a long and detailed address. He has also signed a proclamation marking February 22 as “Angel Family Day” and compared himself to consequential presidents who have faced violence.

Additionally, the European Parliament has postponed its vote on ratifying the US trade deal, and the UK says it will not be impacted by the tariffs ruling. The US Department of State has ordered non-emergency personnel and families to leave Lebanon due to escalating tensions in the region.

Overall, Trump’s actions indicate a continued hardline stance on trade and foreign policy, with a focus on enforcement and confrontation.
