US to Phase Out Synthetic Food Dyes by 2026

The US Department of Health and Human Services plans to work with food companies to stop using synthetic dyes in products. This effort aims to reduce artificial additives from food and drinks, particularly Red 40, Yellow 5, Blue 1, and Red 3. By the end of 2026, six synthetic dyes will be phased out. The FDA Commissioner has set a deadline for eliminating Red 3 by 2027.
