US Tomato Recall Due to Salmonella Contamination

A Class I recall has been issued by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for tomatoes sold in three states due to salmonella contamination, posing a “reasonable probability” of severe illness or death. The affected tomatoes were distributed by Williams Farm Repack LLC, which initially recalled them on April 30.

The contaminated tomatoes were shipped to Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, with 50 three-pack trays, 77 10-pound boxes, and 419 60-count two-layer boxes distributed. Customers are advised to return the tomatoes for a full refund.

Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious infections in young children or elderly people, has been identified as the contaminant. Symptoms include diarrhoea, abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, and fever. If symptoms persist, customers should contact their healthcare provider immediately.
