US Trade Deficit Shrinks Amid Tariffs

The US trade deficit decreased significantly in April, as companies adjusted to President Donald Trump’s new tariff regime. According to an advance estimate from the Commerce Department, imports plummeted nearly 20% from March, leading to a reduced goods trade deficit.

In contrast to March, when the deficit reached a record high due to last-minute purchases before tariffs were implemented, consumers showed restraint in April, and spending slowed down. Additionally, inflation continued to cool, with the Federal Reserve’s preferred price gauge nearing its 2% target.
