US Travel Ban Delayed Indefinitely Over Security Vetting Report

The Trump administration’s plan to ban people from 43 countries from traveling to the US is delayed indefinitely. The White House initially issued an executive order in January requiring intensified security vetting of foreigners seeking admission to the US. However, a report detailing recommendations for restrictions has yet to be submitted, causing delays.

According to the State Department, the report is still being worked on and lacks a new deadline. Spokeswoman Tammy Bruce confirmed that the department is undertaking a full review of all visa programs as directed under the executive order but did not comment further on internal deliberations or communications.

The original memo outlining countries affected by the ban has been met with concerns, particularly for allies of Russia. Countries in the Middle East and Africa face the most drastic measures, including full visa suspensions. A total of 22 nations are considered for a partial suspension of US visa issuance if their governments do not address deficiencies within 60 days.

The delay comes as part of an immigration crackdown launched by Trump at the start of his second term. The plan has sparked concerns, with some comparing it to his previous ‘Muslim ban’ in 2017.
