The number of people filing for continuing unemployment benefits reached its highest level in more than three years, as out-of-work individuals continued to face challenges finding new jobs. According to the Labor Department, 1.91 million people filed for recurring applications in the week ended Dec. 14. In contrast, initial jobless claims decreased to 219,000 in the same period. This mixed picture suggests that while layoffs remain subdued, it is taking longer for those seeking employment to find a new job.
