The US welfare system has a serious problem that goes beyond the recent scandal in Minnesota. Over the past 50 years, America has experienced an unprecedented economic boom. Despite losing its post-war dominance in the 1970s, the country’s economy grew by 142% from 1974 to 2024. A remarkable 62% of children born into poverty eventually rose above it, achieving success all the way up to the top quintile.
