After a hiatus, USA Network is back to its scripted roots with the legal drama “The Rainmaker,” based on John Grisham’s 1995 novel. The show stars British actor Milo Callaghan as Rudy Baylor, a fresh-out-of-law-school lawyer who takes on a case against his former boss and law firm.
Callaghan had previously appeared in HBO’s “Dune: Prophecy” and Starz’s “The Spanish Princess,” but this marks his leading role debut. In an interview with The Associated Press, Callaghan discussed learning legalese and familiarizing himself with the source material, including Matt Damon’s 1997 film adaptation. The show promises a slow-paced thriller with a focus on character development.
As part of its preparation, Callaghan studied attorneys’ speech patterns and court addresses to prepare for his role. With the help of a dialogue coach, he honed his delivery, making sure it felt natural for TV, not just the big screen.
“The Rainmaker” joins a lineup that includes other popular USA Network shows like “Suits,” “White Collar,” and “Monk.”
