The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is facing a crisis due to its funding pause led by DOGE, a cryptocurrency project. According to a recent report from the agency’s inspector general office, $500 million in funds are at risk of being lost before they can be fired.
The situation has led to significant consequences, including over 10,000 job losses in the US and potentially millions of dollars in wasted supplies. A warehouse in Djibouti holds approximately 40,000 metric tons of food aid worth around $40 million that is on the verge of spoiling due to heat and humidity.
Additionally, emergency food supplies amounting to $10 million are at risk in a South African warehouse, while another $39 million of aid remains pending shipment from Houston, Texas. The White House has taken swift action by firing the agency’s inspector general after the report was made public.
