USDA Uses ‘Marriage Story’ Audio to Scare Off Wolves

The US Department of Agriculture is using audio from Scarlett Johansson’s intense fight scene with Adam Driver in Noah Baumbach’s “Marriage Story” to scare off wolves from killing cattle and livestock on farms across America. The audio, which features the actors screaming at each other, has been deemed effective in deterring wolves due to its emotional intensity.

The USDA uses drones equipped with thermal cameras to track and locate wolves. Once identified, the drone broadcasts a loudspeaker system playing recordings of alarming sounds, including the “Marriage Story” fight scene, fireworks, gunshots, and loud music like AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck.” This tactic has proven successful in reducing wolf attacks on livestock.

In Oregon, drones were deployed after 11 cows were killed by wolves in a 20-day period. Over the next 85 days, only two more cows were killed while the drones were patrolling. The USDA’s method of using drones and loud music to scare off wolves has earned praise for its effectiveness in protecting farm livestock.

The “Marriage Story” audio is used due to its intense emotional impact, which is believed to trigger a response from wolves, making them associate humans with danger.
