A new update for Windows 10 has caused frustration among users, with reports of the operating system crashing and displaying a dreaded Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) along with a BitLocker recovery screen. The KB5058379 update is considered mandatory and addresses serious security threats, but some users are experiencing issues during installation.
Users who have tried to install the update are reporting BSODs and recovery screens that prompt them to enter their recovery key or disable certain features like Intel TXT/Trusted Execution. Despite Microsoft’s claims that there are no new issues with the update, user reports contradict this statement.
Those affected by the issue have reported a range of problems, from disabling Intel TXT/Trusted Execution to uninstalling specific programs and restarting their computers. Some users have even opened tickets with Microsoft in hopes of resolving the issue.
As Windows 10’s support date approaches on October 14, users are advised to apply the update despite the challenges. However, Microsoft 365 apps will still receive security updates after the OS is no longer supported. In contrast, Windows 11 users are unaffected by this issue.
