UTSA Stuns Texas 9-7 in Regional Showdown

Texas baseball fell short in a thrilling regional showdown against UTSA, losing 9-7 at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on May 31. The Roadrunners’ offense exploded for six runs in the fifth inning to take control of the game, with Nathan Hodge’s two-run single and James Taussig’s RBI double playing key roles.

Texas starter Luke Harrison allowed four hits over 4 ⅓ innings before giving way to Max Grubbs, who also struggled. The Longhorns had taken a commanding lead early, with Adrian Rodriguez breaking a 1-1 tie in the third inning on a bases-loaded groundout and scoring two of his teammates.

However, UTSA’s bullpen stepped up, with Conor Myles making the starting pitcher’s job look easy before being replaced by Connor Kelley. The Roadrunners then began their late-inning surge, scoring six runs to take the lead for good.

Ty Hodge, UTSA’s all-conference shortstop, was forced out of the game after a collision at third base but remained on the field, showing his toughness and dedication to his team. Despite the loss, Texas can take pride in its early-season performance, which has seen it dominate opponents 27-4 when it scores first.

The Longhorns will look to bounce back from this defeat when they face UTSA again at 8 p.m. CT on May 31.
