Valve Unsupportive of CS:CO Classic Offensive Mod Project

The Counter-Strike community project, CS:CO, was on the cusp of release after eight years in development, but its Steam app has been retired due to an automated review, leaving many wondering why Valve is no longer supportive.

The mod team followed Steam’s guidelines and recommendations, using a wider range of Source tools to create a unique blend of 1.6 and CS:GO gameplay. However, despite previous interactions with Valve, the company has refused to communicate about the project.

CS content creator WarOwl expressed disappointment at being “dropped” without an explanation, while mod team members felt unfairly treated by Valve’s lack of communication. A discussion thread on the r/globaloffensive subreddit garnered over 300 comments before being removed for allegedly violating relevancy rules.

Many believe that Valve’s silence is odd, especially after hiring modders based on their work and having a history with the CS:CO project. The game’s changes have sparked a negative stance from Valve, leaving fans wondering what happened to the long-awaited release of Classic Offensive in early 2025.
