A rare and iconic peony garden in Michigan’s Nichols Arboretum was targeted by a vandal on Sunday, June 1, 2025. According to the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security, around 250 of the garden’s 800 peony plants had most of their flowers cut.
No group or organization has claimed responsibility for the incident. However, police found over 100 paper signs scattered throughout the area. The investigation is ongoing, with officials urging anyone with information to come forward.
