Vegas Acquires Reilly Smith from Rangers in Trade

The Vegas Golden Knights have reacquired forward Reilly Smith from the New York Rangers, acquiring him in exchange for prospect Brendan Brisson and a third-round draft pick. The move marks a reunion of sorts, as Smith previously played for the Golden Knights from 2017-2023.

Smith has had a productive season with the Rangers, scoring 10 goals and 29 points in 58 games. His impending free agency status made him an attractive trade candidate, but the team ultimately decided to retain him. The move provides the Golden Knights with much-needed scoring depth as they eye a long playoff run.

In return for Smith, the Rangers received Brisson, who failed to thrive after being drafted 29th overall in 2020. The forward prospect will now start fresh with the team’s AHL affiliate in Hartford. This trade marks another high-profile move by Vegas, which has traded away all but one of its first-round draft picks since their inaugural season.

The NHL trade deadline is Friday at 3 p.m. ET.
