Verizon has announced it will support sending text messages via satellite on phones from the Pixel 9 and Galaxy S25 lineup, starting today. This feature is available when users are “outside the reach of terrestrial cellular networks” and comes with limitations such as requiring an open line of sight to the sky.
The service relies on partnerships with AST SpaceMobile and Skylo, and its availability mirrors Apple’s Messages via Satellite feature introduced alongside iOS 18. Competitors like T-Mobile already offer satellite messaging through a partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink.
