Vermont Unemployment Claims See Significant Increase Last Week

Vermont saw a significant increase in initial unemployment claims last week, with new filings rising 55% compared to the previous week. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the state reported 771 new jobless claims, up from 496 the week before.

The national picture is also concerning, with U.S. unemployment claims increasing to 241,000 last week, a rise of 18,000 claims from the previous week on a seasonally adjusted basis. Puerto Rico saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, jumping by 213.5%, while Rhode Island reported the largest drop in new claims, decreasing by 67.5%.
