NBA coaches have selected Victor Wembanyama as a first-time All-Star for his impressive performance with the San Antonio Spurs. The 14-year-old center is one of six rookie players chosen this year, marking the fourth time in Spurs history that a player has made it to the All-Star Game in their first or second season.
Spurs acting coach Mitch Johnson praised Wembanyama’s dedication and work ethic, saying his talent and unique skillset shine through. Coaches select reserve players after choosing starters through fan voting, media voting, and active player voting.
Wembanyama joins several other talented players from both conferences as reserves for the upcoming All-Star Game in San Francisco on February 16. Notable first-time All-Stars include Indiana’s Pascal Siakam, Cleveland’s Darius Garland, Detroit’s Cade Cunningham, Miami’s Tyler Herro, and Oklahoma City’s Jalen Williams.
The NBA has introduced a new format this year, with three games featuring three teams of eight players each. The draft for the initial teams will be held on February 6, followed by semifinal games that will determine the championship team.
