Vietnam ranks highly among the top five countries for expats worldwide. A survey conducted by InterNations found that affordability is a major factor in its success, with 89% of expats pleased with the cost of living and 87% feeling their disposable income is sufficient to live comfortably.
The country excels in career prospects (11th) and ease of settling in (12th), with high overall life satisfaction among foreign residents. However, Vietnam falls short in quality of life rankings, requiring improvement in areas such as public transport, leisure options, environmental factors, or healthcare infrastructure.
The InterNations Expat Insider 2025 survey gathered responses from over 10,000 expats representing 172 nationalities worldwide. Vietnam takes the 8th spot, with China and Indonesia following closely behind. To become a top destination for retirees, one major step needed is securing a retirement visa.
