Vietnam Restaurant Owner Killed by Rabies-Infected Dog He Slaughtered

A 33-year-old man in southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province died from rabies after handling butchered dogs and cats for his restaurant business. The owner, who was exposed to the disease three days before death, began showing symptoms such as muscle spasms and frothing at the mouth.

Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, with health authorities in Vietnam urging people to seek medical treatment immediately if they have been bitten or exposed. In recent weeks, several other individuals were also bitten by a stray dog with rabies-like symptoms, highlighting the growing problem of rabies cases in the country this year.

Quick vaccinations administered to those bitten have helped curb the spread, while the infected dog was euthanized. Vietnam’s health ministry has reported an increase in rabies cases nationwide, emphasizing the need for caution and prompt medical attention.
