Vikings Acquire Jordan Mason from 49ers in Offseason

The Minnesota Vikings have acquired running back Jordan Mason from the San Francisco 49ers, further bolstering their backfield with a young and experienced player. In exchange for Mason, the Niners will receive a 2026 sixth-round pick and swap picks with the Vikings in this year’s draft.

Mason, 25, has agreed to a two-year deal worth $7 million fully guaranteed and a maximum value of $12 million. He joins starter Aaron Jones, who recently signed a two-year, $20 million deal. The addition of Mason is expected to provide relief for Jones as the team prioritizes finding backfield partners to share the load.

The Vikings have been active in the offseason, re-signing or acquiring 12 players to bolster their roster. Mason will benefit from a stronger offensive line, which includes new center Ryan Kelly and right guard Will Fries. Both signed multiyear deals totaling $107 million.

Mason emerged as the Niners’ lead back last season, earning a career-high 789 yards on 153 attempts with three touchdowns in six starts. He will now head to Minnesota, where he can build upon his successful stint with San Francisco, which saw him average 6 yards per carry and 5.2 yards per attempt.

With Mason’s departure, the Niners are likely to focus on adding running back depth. Their current depth chart features Christian McCaffrey, Isaac Guerendo, and Patrick Taylor Jr., all of whom are recovering from knee injuries.
