Vikings New QB J.J. McCarthy Faces Doubt Ahead of 2025 Season

The Minnesota Vikings are moving forward with second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy as their new starter for the 2025 season. However, concerns have been raised by NFL insider Ross Tucker about the team’s confidence in McCarthy.

Tucker believes that the Vikings were not extremely sold on McCarthy and were instead focused on re-signing Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones. While the team is selling McCarthy as their top choice, they had doubts about his ability to succeed.

One major concern is that McCarthy has never played an NFL regular-season snap due to a preseason knee injury that kept him out for the entire 2024 season. Without seeing how he performs on the field, it’s difficult to guarantee that he’ll be able to step in and start at a high level.

McCarthy’s first three career starts will come against the Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, and Cincinnati Bengals. Fans are eager to see if he can prove himself as a capable starter and rise to the occasion in his second season.
