Vikings QB Kirk Cousins Preparing for Minnesota Homecoming

Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is looking forward to his homecoming game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, with a special connection to an old neighbor who helped him and his family in Minnesota. Cousins’ neighbor, Jon Weber, has been a significant influence on him throughout his career.

Cousins, who joined the Vikings in 2018 as a free agent after six seasons with the Washington Commanders, compiled a strong record in Minnesota before leaving for Atlanta this offseason. Despite being asked about a favorite teammate or person he’s looking forward to seeing, Cousins only mentioned Jon Weber.

“This is what Minnesota is all about,” Cousins said. “The people, the community… it’s all so great.” When asked about the Vikings organization, Cousins couldn’t pick just one person who positively impacted his life.

“There are 50 people tied for first,” he said. “I think of ownership, teammates, coaches, and support staff. They’ve given me everything.”

Cousins’ departure from Minnesota was marked by a four-year, $180 million contract with the Falcons. The Vikings made it to the playoffs in 2019 and 2022 under his leadership.

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell praised Cousins’ impact on the team, saying he’s one of the players who has had a significant influence on him throughout his coaching career. O’Connell worked with Cousins during his final seasons in Washington and Minnesota.

The Falcons, meanwhile, are facing a tough test against their former quarterback, who has thrown six interceptions but no touchdowns over his last three games. Despite this, Falcons coach Zac Robinson believes Cousins will bounce back.

“He’s the same guy every single day,” Robinson said. “He’ll keep swinging and get back to work.”

Cousins is also looking forward to returning to U.S. Bank Stadium, where he knows the environment and challenges of Brian Flores’ defense. He expects the fans to make the game as hostile as possible.

With Cousins preparing for his Minnesota homecoming, one thing is clear: he’s grateful for the support and opportunities he received during his time with the Vikings.
