Violence Escalates in Gaza Amid Israeli Strikes and Settlement Raids

Violence has escalated in the Gaza Strip amid a series of Israeli strikes and raids by settlers. At least four Palestinians have been killed in an Israeli strike on Gaza City’s Shujayea, with reports of injuries and widespread destruction.

In the Zeitoun neighbourhood, one Palestinian has been killed and three injured in an Israeli strike on a residential building. Wafa, the official Palestinian news agency, reports that “several” people were killed in this attack, which hit at least two buildings.

The Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza has also seen intense shelling by the Israeli army, resulting in five deaths and numerous injuries. A leading source from Hamas’s armed wing claims that most of the Israeli captives held in northern Gaza are now missing due to Israel’s military operation.

Meanwhile, settlers have carried out arson attacks on several Palestinian communities, including in Abu Falah and villages east of Hebron. The UK, US, and Israel are believed to have participated in coordinated strikes in Yemen, with reports emerging of clashes between Palestinian fighters and Israeli forces near Hebron.

The UN has hailed the upcoming conference on Palestine as a turning point towards peace in the Middle East, with the potential for a lasting solution to the conflict. However, the conference is set for June 2025, leaving many questioning its ability to bring about meaningful change.

Pro-Palestine groups have condemned a planned march in London being banned by police, citing concerns over freedom of speech and the right to protest. As the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, international leaders are increasingly calling for an end to violence and a path towards peace.
