The Virginia Cavaliers (13-12, 6-8) secured their first win in Blacksburg since 2020 with a thrilling comeback victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies (11-14, 6-8). The ‘Hoos held the lead for most of the game but allowed Tech to creep within one point in the final minutes.
Redshirt freshman Anthony Robinson led the charge, posting an impressive breakout performance. He scored 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and blocked two shots in just 18 minutes of play. Robinson’s dominance was evident as he played aggressively on both ends of the court, setting nasty screens for his teammates and defending against Tech’s best efforts.
Isaac McKneely also contributed to the win, leading a three-point shootout with six successful triples. The ‘Hoos’ ability to hit from beyond the arc was key in the first half, but they struggled after halftime.
Virginia employed a post double-team defense, which has seen moderate success against Tech. However, the ‘Hoos must work on limiting unforced turnovers, as they committed eight mistakes throughout the game.
The win marked a redemption for Virginia, but it also highlights their struggles with mid-game droughts and temporary frenzies that can cost them leads. Despite this, a rivalry win is still a victory, and the Cavaliers will take pride in their hard-fought comeback triumph.
