VirtualBox has released version 7.1, introducing significant updates and new features. The enhanced user interface offers a modern look and feel, with the option to choose between Basic and Experienced user levels, providing reduced or full UI functionality.
Cloud VM management gets a boost with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) integration, featuring a performance dashboard that shows resource usage for cloud VMs. Users can now clone and reset compute instances using OCI.
Other notable updates include:
* ARM support on macOS/Arm hosts for Linux and BSD VMs
* Wayland compatibility for Clipboard sharing on Linux hosts and guests
* Initial file transfer support between Linux and Windows hosts/guests, requiring 7.1 Guest Additions
* Improved Screen Recording performance with less CPU usage while recording is active
The update also addresses various issues and adds new features, such as:
* VMM: Fixed EFLAGS. TF handling for CPUID instructions when Hyper-V is used
* virtio-net: Follow-up fixes for FreeBSD 12.3 and pfSense 2.6.0
* EFI: Ability to add new Microsoft DB/KEX certificates to newly created VMs
* Oracle Extension Pack: Fixed shipping the cryptographic support module for full VM encryption
Additionally, VirtualBox 7.1 includes improvements in GUI accessibility, updates Qt version, and adds support for subiquity/cloud-init-based installers for Unattended installation. The VBoxManage tool now offers the ability to show and reattach to video recording progress and query guest mount points.
A reminder that Python API bindings for Python 2.x are deprecated and will be removed in a future version. It is recommended to upgrade code to use Python 3.
