Vivek Ramswamy, a former far-right darling, is now running for governor of Ohio on a MAGA platform. However, his Indian-American heritage has become a target for attack in right-wing circles.
Ramswamy recently wrote an op-ed warning that rising racism within the conservative movement could tear it apart. He emphasized that “Americanness” is not determined by ancestry but by shared values such as freedom of expression and the rule of law.
The problem, Ramswamy said, is a growing contingent of right-wing activists who subscribe to an “identitarian” vision based on ancestry and ethnicity, where outsiders don’t belong. This ideology mirrors what he hates about left-wing identity politics.
Ramswamy called for Republicans to forcefully condemn white supremacists like Nick Fuentes’ founder, and focus on policies that lift everyone up, such as affordability reforms. He believes the solution lies in coming together to achieve a more promising terrain, rather than opposing each other.
By warning against this rising racism, Ramswamy aims to preserve the conservative movement’s core values and create a more inclusive America for all citizens.
