Volvo has unveiled its newest electric car, the ES90 sedan, which boasts an 800-volt electrical architecture for super-fast charging. The vehicle features a unique blend of design elements from a sedan and a hatchback, making it a genre-bending model.
The ES90 is based on Volvo’s EX90 SUV architecture but is lower-slung and has a liftback-style hatch instead of a traditional trunk. It offers more ground clearance than an average sedan and features a taller and more functional design compared to the S90. The ES90 shares similarities with Toyota’s new Crown model.
The ES90 will be available in two dual-motor configurations, producing 329 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque for the rear-wheel-drive single-motor version, or up to 670 horsepower for the Twin Motor Performance. Charging times are estimated at around 6.7 seconds for the base model and 3.9 seconds for the high-performance variant.
The cabin features a unique blend of Google-based tech and traditional Volvo design. A 14.5-inch center tablet runs the infotainment system, while a 9-inch gauge cluster provides an alternative display option. The vehicle also comes equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a surround-view camera system, and advanced driver assistance features.
Backseat riders will enjoy heated or cooled individual chairs, which can be folded flat to create additional cargo space up to 44.4 cubic feet. Pricing is expected to be around the same as the EX90 SUV, with a starting price of $80,000.
The ES90 is available for order in select countries and is set to arrive in the US by late 2025 or early 2026.
