VW Surpasses Tesla as Europe’s Top Electric Vehicle Seller

Volkswagen has demonstrated significant potential during its transition to electrification, achieving a record-breaking sales milestone in the European electric vehicle market. In the first half of 2025, Volkswagen sold 135,427 units of electric vehicles, a 78% increase compared to the same period last year.

The ID family models, including the popular ID.4, ID.7, and ID.3, drove this growth. The ID.4 alone has seen impressive sales figures, with over 6,000 cumulative units sold in the first half of the year. Its popularity can be attributed to its practicality, efficiency, and advanced features.

Volkswagen’s electric vehicle portfolio strategy appears to cater to diverse customer needs. In addition to Korea, the brand is strengthening its market presence by focusing on the ID.4 and ID.5 models. The latter, launched in Korea in 2022, has garnered a strong response from domestic customers with its powerful drive system, comfort, and cutting-edge features.

Volkswagen’s leadership in the global electric vehicle market under its ‘electric vehicles for everyone’ strategy is expected to continue. With plans to expand its portfolio gradually, starting with the ID.4 and ID.5, Volkswagen remains a major player in the European and Korean markets.
