A new study by Lund University found that waist size is a more effective predictor of cancer risk in men compared to body mass index (BMI). The study, which analyzed data from 3,39,190 people over 14 years, revealed that an extra 4 inches on the waist increased men’s risk of cancer by 25%. This finding suggests that measuring waist size may be a better indicator of cancer risk for men than relying solely on BMI. In contrast to women, where links were less pronounced, men are more likely to store fat in their abdominal area, making waist size measurement a more effective tool. The study’s findings highlight the importance of considering individual fat distribution and levels when assessing cancer risk.
