Wake Forest Hires Jake Dickert as New Football Coach

After Dave Clawson’s resignation, Wake Forest has hired Washington State head coach Jake Dickert as his replacement. Dickert, 41, led the Cougars to an 8-4 record this season and emphasized building relationships with current student-athletes and retaining key roster players.

Dickert praised his former colleagues at Washington State, expressing gratitude for their support during his tenure. He also acknowledged challenges in college sports, including NIL payments and the transfer portal, which led to Clawson’s resignation.

Prior to coaching at Washington State, Dickert was the defensive coordinator at Wyoming and earlier held positions in Division II and FCS ranks. The Cougars started strong this season but lost their last three games.

Clawson will stay on as an advisor at Wake Forest following his departure. He cited industry changes as a reason for his resignation, stating that he could not devote his whole heart to the role anymore.
