Wake Forest Stuns UNC with Thrilling 67-66 Victory

Wake Forest’s win over Carolina marks the ninth one-possession game of the season for the Heels, who are now 5-4 overall and 3-2 in ACC play. The Deacs’ victory came as a result of a late 12-2 run, which saw three of four shots taken by Carolina go unanswered. RJ Davis led Carolina with 21 points, while Elliot Cadeau added 14 points and 13 assists. However, the Tar Heels struggled shooting from three-point range, making just eight of 32 attempts.

The game was marked by a high number of fouls, with both teams combining for 27 infractions. Wake Forest took advantage of these foul opportunities, putting four players in double figures. Cameron Hildreth led the way with 20 points, 10 of which came from the free throw line. The win is significant as it gives the Heels a much-needed boost before their critical four-game stretch that begins at Pitt next Tuesday.

The loss marks Carolina’s fourth straight defeat at Wake Forest, a feat last achieved in 1962-65 under young coach Dean Smith. With this game being one of their must-win scenarios, the Tar Heels will need to bounce back quickly if they hope to regain momentum in their pursuit of an ACC title.
