Walmart Cuts Jobs, Relocates Employees to Main Hubs

Walmart is eliminating hundreds of jobs and closing one of its North Carolina offices as it continues to pull workers back to its main hubs in California and Arkansas. The company plans to open new office space in these locations, expand its offices in the New York metro area, and relocate some employees to its newly opened headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas, and Sunnyvale, California.

In an internal memo seen by FOX Business, Walmart Chief People Officer Donna Morris announced that the company is cutting roles and asking office-based employees in Hoboken and smaller offices to relocate to its main hubs. Morris stated that the changes are aimed at putting key capabilities together, encouraging speed and shared understanding.

The decision is part of a broader relocation strategy unveiled in May 2024, which saw Walmart initiate the first phase of relocating employees from offices in Dallas, Atlanta, and Toronto to its corporate headquarters in Bentonville. The company has been requiring workers to return to the office since February 2022, citing benefits such as boosted collaboration, innovation, and faster work processes.

Walmart is opening new office spaces in Sunnyvale and Bellevue, Washington, while expanding its offices in Hoboken and New York City. The company will help affected employees “navigate the path forward, including providing relocation support or severance.”
