A voluntary precautionary advisory has been issued by Braga Fresh, a salad and vegetable company, due to potential contamination of its bagged broccoli florets sold in Walmart stores across several states, including Utah. The affected product, 12-ounce Marketplace Broccoli Florets, may contain Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious infections.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns that this organism primarily affects vulnerable individuals such as the elderly, young children, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy consumers may experience short-term symptoms like high fever, headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
As of January 1, 2025, no illnesses have been reported from consuming the broccoli florets, but consumers are advised to exercise caution. The recalled product is past its best-by date (December 10, 2024) and no longer available in stores. However, some consumers may still have purchased these bags and stored them for later use.
To identify affected products, look for the best by date or UPC code (6 81131 32884 5), as well as the lot code BFFG327A6 printed on the front of the bag. The FDA emphasizes that this advisory only affects Braga Fresh’s Marketside Broccoli Florets sold at Walmart stores and does not impact other Marketside or Braga Fresh products.
If you suspect a potentially contaminated product, discard it immediately. For further questions or concerns, contact 877-456-7445 (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.) or email [email protected].
