Warner Bros. Closes Three Studios, Cancels Wonder Woman Game

Warner Bros. Games has made significant cuts, closing three studios and canceling a highly anticipated game. The closures affect Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB Games San Diego. The studio that worked on the long-in-development Wonder Woman game will no longer be producing it.

According to an email sent by CEO JB Perrette, Warner Bros. Games is shifting its focus to four key franchises: Harry Potter/Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat, DC (primarily Batman), and Game of Thrones. The company aims to regain its credibility and produce high-quality games, citing disappointing 2024 results.

Perrette stated that the company will repurpose talent from canceled projects to open roles. Warner Bros. Games has struggled with recent releases, including “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” and a relaunched MultiVersus. The closure of these studios is part of a strategic change in direction to focus on core franchises.

The decision comes after the departure of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment president David Haddad in January. A spokesperson for Warner Bros. Games provided the following statement, expressing admiration for the talent and passion of the affected teams but emphasizing the need for a strategic shift to achieve growth and profitability by 2025.
