Warner Bros., Discovery to Split into Two Companies

Warner Bros. Discovery has announced its plans to split into two companies, “Warner Bros.” and “Discovery Global”, with a expected separation in mid-2026. The streaming and studios division will be called “Warner Bros.”, housing movie properties including DC Studios and HBO Max, while the global networks segment will be named “Discovery Global” and include entertainment, sports, and news networks such as CNN, TNT Sports, and Discovery+.

The company has also announced its executive leadership teams for both businesses. Warner Bros. President and CEO David Zaslav will lead the new entity, with WBD CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels becoming CEO of Discovery Global. The split is part of a broader industry shift towards streaming, as consumers increasingly turn away from traditional cable.

The move follows a similar spinoff by Comcast, which is set to separate its cable assets in the coming months. The new names announced by Warner Bros. Discovery are a nod to the two entities that existed before the merger, completed in 2022. With an executive team of proven leaders, the companies aim to launch and grow in meaningful ways.
