The Washington Commanders are considering moving on from starting running back Brian Robinson after his preseason loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Coach Dan Quinn revealed that he and general manager Adam Peters met with Robinson on Sunday, informing him that he would not play in the game due to “moving parts” at this time of year.
Quinn acknowledged that Robinson’s reaction to the conversation is private, but expressed respect for the player, who finished second to Jayden Daniels in rushing last season with 799 yards and eight touchdowns. However, Quinn praised the team’s depth at running back, citing competition among players such as Demetric Felton, Kazmeir Allen, Bill Jacory-Croskey-Merritt, and Austin Ekeler.
Ekeler did not play in Sunday’s preseason game, but Quinn noted that the team is learning from young runners Chris Rodriguez Jr. and Croskey-Merritt, who showed decisiveness and made big plays. The coaching staff wants to see more of these players as they move forward with training camp. With veteran Jeremy McNichols also on the roster, the Commanders are confident in their ability to navigate the depth at running back.
