SpaceX has announced its plans to launch the ninth flight test of its Starship spacecraft on May 27, with liftoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET from its headquarters in Boca Chica, Texas. The rocket, which is over 400 feet tall and powered by six Raptor engines, aims to carry both cargo and humans to Earth’s orbit and deeper into space.
The launch comes after the Federal Aviation Administration gave official approval for the test, following an investigation into the most recent Starship launch on March 6, which ended in a catastrophic explosion. To mitigate this risk, SpaceX has made several hardware changes to increase reliability.
For those who can’t attend in person, the launch will be livestreamed on SpaceX’s website and social media platforms, including X TV app. The webcast will begin about 30 minutes before liftoff, allowing viewers to witness the historic moment from anywhere in the world.
The Starship program is crucial for SpaceX’s plans to establish a human presence on Mars, with Musk aiming to send humans to the Red Planet by the end of 2026. While the launch poses risks, it represents a significant step towards achieving this ambitious goal.
