Waymo Brings Autonomous Testing Fleet to Philadelphia

Waymo, a leading autonomous driving technology company, is visiting Philadelphia as part of its cross-country tour. Starting Monday, the company will have a fleet of vehicles with trained autonomous specialists operating the cars and driving through the city’s most complex areas, including downtown and freeways.

The testing fleet will be closed to the public and will allow Waymo Driver to learn the lay of the land before it begins driving autonomously. According to a spokesperson for the company, Philadelphia is one of 10 cities on its tour map, which also includes New York City, Boston, and Las Vegas.

Waymo currently provides over 250,000 fully autonomous paid trips each week in cities such as San Francisco, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Austin, and Atlanta. Tom Ignudo, a digital content producer at CBS Philadelphia, covered high school and college sports for the Philadelphia Inquirer before joining CBS Philadelphia in 2021.
