A recent study analyzing galaxies captured by the James Webb Space Telescope revealed a surprising finding: two-thirds of galaxies are spinning clockwise, while one-third spin counterclockwise. The unexpected result has sparked debate over the origin of the universe and the methods used to measure cosmic distances.
Researchers analyzed 263 galaxies in the JADES field and found that the clockwise-spinning galaxies appear red, while those spinning in the opposite direction appear blue due to the Doppler shift effect. This effect is caused by light coming from galaxies rotating in the same direction as the Milky Way appearing brighter.
The study proposes two possible explanations for this overrepresentation of clockwise-spinning galaxies: the universe was born rotating and the Doppler shift effect. If true, it would require recalibrating distance measurements for the deep universe.
Meanwhile, archaeologists uncovered the oldest known facial bones of a human ancestor in northern Spain, dated to 1.1-1.4 million years old. The discovery shows early humans ventured into Europe over 1 million years ago.
Additionally, researchers found that playing with dogs for just 15 minutes can relieve stress in both humans and dogs. A study conducted by Chiang Mai University in Thailand showed a significant decrease in human stress levels after dog interactions, with reduced heart rates and lower cortisol levels.
