The second season of Netflix’s “Wednesday” series, starring Jenna Ortega, fails to recapture the magic of its first season. Despite maintaining its unique blend of dark humor and teenage angst, the show’s momentum is hindered by a decrease in sharp-witted zingers and less surprising plot twists.
However, the show still delivers on its promise of morbid charm through its exploration of the Addams family dynamic. The strained relationship between Wednesday and her mother, Morticia, adds a new layer of complexity to their already dysfunctional interactions. The return of eccentric Uncle Fester and other beloved characters brings a welcome boost to the series.
New additions, such as Grandmama Hester Frump and a disembodied head teaching at Nevermore Academy, further enrich the show’s world. The performances, casting, and artistic flourishes remain its strongest assets, making “Wednesday” a ghoulish delight despite its lackluster start.
