WEF Davos: India, Europe Clash on Climate, Trade, and Global Governance

The World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, kicked off on Monday (January 21, 2025), with a focus on “collaboration for the intelligent age”. The event brought together world leaders to address pressing global issues.

Legendary footballer David Beckham received the prestigious Crystal Awards, as did two other individuals. An opening concert highlighted the urgent environmental crisis in Antarctica.

The Indian contingent made history at Davos, with the largest-ever delegation from India participating in the conference. Despite party affiliations, the Indian teams came together for the event.

Maharashtra signed several significant Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹4.99 lakh crore, promising to generate 92,235 jobs. One notable deal was between JSW Group and Maharashtra, worth ₹3 lakh crore in investments for steel, renewable energy, infrastructure, and more.

Meanwhile, international leaders discussed crucial issues like climate change, global governance, and trade. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy emphasized the need for Europe to establish itself as a strong player on the world stage. However, Chancellor Olaf Scholz criticized Elon Musk’s support for far-right positions, citing concerns over his recent actions.

In another notable event, International Trade Union Confederation chief Luc Triangle expressed distrust in US President Donald Trump, labeling him “not the president of workers”. The WEF meeting concluded its live blog, marking a significant end to the discussions.
