Wendy Williams recently appeared on “The View” to address her guardianship and recent hospitalization. The former talk show host, who was placed under a court-appointed guardianship in 2022 due to her diagnosis with frontotemporal dementia, insisted she is not incapacitated.
Williams said it was her choice to undergo independent cognitive testing at Lenox Hill Hospital, where she scored high marks. She railed against her guardian and the judge overseeing her case, stating she needs them to “get off my neck.”
The talk show host expressed a desire to be released from the guardianship, citing it has been over three years and wants to regain control over her life and finances. Williams also stated she wants her current guardian replaced.
Regarding her substance use, Williams acknowledged her struggles with alcohol and cocaine addiction but said she is currently “alcohol-free” and can easily maintain sobriety for the rest of her life.
Williams’s guardianship has been a topic of concern among her fans and medical professionals. The NYPD conducted a welfare check on her in March after receiving reports of her supposed isolation, but Williams insisted she was not incapacitated and wanted help to be released from the guardianship.
