Residents of the Village of Goshen in Orange County are being warned about the presence of West Nile virus after additional infected mosquito pools were detected. This is not the first time the area has been affected, as an infected pool was previously found at Greenwood Lake.
According to officials, protecting oneself against mosquito bites is crucial during this season. Acting Health Commissioner Dr. Jennifer Roman advises wearing suitable clothing and applying insect repellents when outdoors. It’s also essential to check properties for any stagnant water that may be breeding mosquitoes.
Mosquitoes can breed in standing water lasting more than four days, making it a prime breeding ground for the virus. Residents are urged to take necessary precautions to prevent mosquito bites and reduce the risk of contracting West Nile virus.
