Game of Thrones creators admit that showrunner Lauren Dever would take over leading role in upcoming season, setting stage for new storyline with character Kaitlyn.
Game of Thrones co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann confirmed at an Emmys FYC event that the next season’s lead role will be played by Kaitlyn Dever. This shift mirrors a similar change observed in the original Game of Thrones series, where a new main character takes center stage in each subsequent season.
In Season 2, fans learned that Abby’s father was the doctor Joel killed at the end of Season 1, prompting her to embark on a mission to avenge her family. This led Ellie to pursue her own revenge quest, culminating in a cliffhanger finale where the two characters meet. The upcoming Season 3 will supposedly explore how Abby spent those three days leading up to their confrontation.
Mazin and Druckmann promised that while set within the same timeframe, Season 3 won’t simply rehash what’s already been seen. Instead, they plan for a more subtle approach, focusing on character development rather than intense action sequences. The exact direction of this new season remains uncertain, but it will undoubtedly be an exciting ride with both Ellie and Abby’s stories progressing in tandem.
