WGA Awards Return to Normal After Last Year’s Chaos

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) Awards are back in full swing this year, taking place on February 15. The ceremony marks a return to normalcy after last year’s scheduling issues and fires that marred the event.

Several writers have been recognized for their outstanding work, including Justin Kuritzkes, who is nominated for Best Original Screenplay. Other notable nominees include the creators of Fallout and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, who are up for multiple awards in categories such as Best Drama Series and New Series.

The WGA also honors its members with specialty awards tonight. These include the Ian McLellan Hunter Award for Career Achievement to Scott Frank, creator of The Queen’s Gambit; the Herb Sargent Award for Comedy Excellence to Bill Lawrence; the Richard B. Jablow award to Kathy McGee, former Guild president; and the Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television Writing Achievement to Breaking Bad’s Vince Gilligan.

In a poignant tribute, the late David Lynch will receive the Laurel Award for Screenwriting Achievement posthumously, recognizing his enduring legacy in the industry.
