Google has introduced a new feature in Android 15 called Notification Cooldown, designed to prevent apps from overwhelming users with too many notifications at once. This feature manages how often notifications can be posted by an application over time.
Notification Cooldown helps ensure you don’t miss important notifications because your phone was on silent mode, which is useful for minimizing interruptions that often accompany notifications. Once enabled, it will automatically lower the volume and minimize alerts (for up to 2 minutes) when several notifications arrive in a short amount of time.
The feature arrived with the March 2025 update and works well for minimizing notification overload. However, it cannot be customized at present, only enabled or disabled. It also doesn’t apply to alarms, emergency alerts, or priority conversations.
To enable Notification Cooldown on an Android Pixel phone running the March 2025 update or later, follow these steps:
1. Open Settings and navigate to Notifications.
2. Locate the Notification Cooldown setting within the General category.
3. Tap the On/Off slider to enable the feature.
